Prabhupada left India and came here on a boat
He only had forty rupees, his slippers and a coat
Bearing books of wisdom from the ancient Vedic lore
He came here to remind us of the Lord we knew before
In Tompkins Square he sang a song the West had never heard
The hippies and the immigrants were captured by the words
And such a simple tune it was, and such a simple song
The names of God, the words for which their hearts had always longed
Come climb aboard the Good Ship Harinama
Prabhupada is taking us back to Vrndavana-dhama
The Lord says it's the swiftest boat for those who've gone astray
So come along and sing along. A little faith is all you pay.
All around the world he flew to teach that perfect song
And everywhere he went he found they'd gather 'round in throngs
Because they all were thirsting for the nectar of the name
And that's why Krishna sent him, and that is why he came
He brought us Krishna's names and Krishna's lore and Krishna's words
And now the pleasures of this world seem empty and absurd
And though he's left our vision, his great teachings are still here
To guide us and protect us and to dissipate all fears
Come climb aboard the Good Ship Harinama
Prabhupada is taking us back to Vrndavana-dhama
The Lord says it's the swiftest boat for those who've gone astray
So come along and sing along, a little faith is all you pay
